- Sustainable solutions for future-oriented architecture -
At a time when sustainability, circularity and aesthetics are defining the building vision of countless architects, one material is resolutely pushing itself to the fore: WOOD. As a natural, renewable and ecological material, wood inspires innovative architectural designs. But wood offers more than just charm: thanks to innovative treatments, it is also used today in complex architectural applications, in buildings that must comply with strict fire regulations. One of Lemahieu Group's divisions, Lemahieu Fire Protection®, is a pioneer in this field.
Building with wood is not just an aesthetic statement, it is a conscious choice in favor of the future. Thanks to its low carbon emissions, renewable nature and minimal environmental impact during production and processing, wood fits perfectly within the sustainability ambitions of today's construction industry.
Lemahieu Group was the first Belgian company to obtain CE certification for fire-retardant treated facade and wall cladding according to EN14915. By actually, this is an obligation for those with fire-retardant treatment. This confirms conformity with the European Construction Products Regulation (Regulation 305/2011/EU) and offers architects an additional guarantee of quality.
The assessment of the reaction to fire is done in the so-called “end-use conditions” - that is, as the wood is actually placed on site, including underlying layers. Lemahieu provides all necessary test reports and certificates.
Architects do not have to make any aesthetic concessions thanks to the innovative treatments. On the contrary:
The fire-retardant-treated wood and ThermoWood® can be mechanically finished with a color coating (semi-transparent or opaque) or pre-graying. These color finishes have been tested and certified in conjunction with the fire retardant treatment. It is purely an aesthetic choice. Machine finishing ensures a quality and even finish.
Lemahieu is the partner-distributor of Accoya wood for Belgium and Luxembourg. This exceptionally durable wood can be treated to B-s1,d0 and has already been successfully used in projects such as De Zenne and the Brussels Psychiatric Institute.
Cladding with ThermoWood® radiata pine, ThermoWood® tulip wood and Douglas have been tested and can now also be treated to fire reaction class B-s1,d0.
Thanks to new tests, a fiber cement board (Swiss Pearl, min. density 1300 kg/m3 and min. thickness 4.5 mm) or wood fiber cement board (Duripanel B1, mean density 1200 kg/m3 and min. thickness 18 mm) with a vapor control film can be used as a substrate.
With a wide and certified range, including customization and technical advice, Lemahieu Fire Protection is the ideal partner for architects who want to use wood in a safe, sustainable and creative way.
