Accoya is a type of acetylated wood, a material that has been researched by wood scientists for many years before Accoya was introduced to the market. Long-term studies of acetylated wood have shown its outstanding performance.
There is also a standard European test for timber durability (resistance to rot) that allows direct comparisons between Accoya and other types of wood. Since the performance of other woods is well-documented, this test provides a clear understanding of how Accoya measures up. Both the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and TRADA (the UK’s leading independent timber research organization) validate the durability claims for Accoya. This strong evidence supports the unmatched 50-year warranty we offer.

Our process of acetylation significantly increases the durability and stability of our raw sustainable timber, prolonging its useful life and so keeping the carbon locked in for longer.
This role as a ‘carbon sink’ is central to the sustainability of timber and Accoya’s much lower lifecycle carbon emissions compared to many non-renewable building materials. As a result, specifying Accoya wood is a great way to contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

Thanks to our fire-retardant treatment, we can treat Accoya wood to fire reaction class B-s1,d0.
Under pressure with a biodegradable fire retardant
With Lemahieu Fire Protection®, we can give timber products a fire retardant treatment with Burnblock® in our autoclave under pressure.
At our production site in Ostend, both our autoclave and the drying killns guarantee a qualitative treatment in accordance with current standards.
