Accoya wood | Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc is the largest hospital in Brussels, with more than 6,000 employees and nearly 1,000 beds.

50 year guarantee

The Saint Luc University Hospital in Saint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, Belgium has chosen Accoya wood cladding for the construction of a new wing.

Modulo architects chose Accoya for 2 reasons; it has a 25 year guarantee against decay in contact with the ground and 50 years against decay above ground. This means that Accoya requires little or no maintenance. Another factor was sustainability; it is made from FSC® certified wood and fits into the circular economy.

72 m3 of 25 x 100 mm and 25 x 150 mm planed Accoya was used for the upper part of the building to give the exterior a contemporary, natural look.

Cladding in fire retardant Accoya

The durable modified Accoya was fire treated by Lemahieu Fire Protection to the required fire reaction class. The fire retardant treatment with Burnblock® is done under pressure in our autoclave. The fire retardant is 100% natural and biodegradable. Moreover, the product is Cradle-to-Cradle™ Gold certified. The fire retardant treatment ensures that the fire reaction class is maintained over time, so no re-treatment is necessary.
