Wood Hub is the new reference for sustainable and smart buildings. CFE's new headquarters in Brussels consists of a mix of wood frame and concrete.

Materials of biological origin

Several positive alternatives in natural and organic materials have been chosen, including window frames, interior acoustic panels and facade insulation.

Local pine was chosen for the entrance and roof beams. The choice of local rather than tropical timber not only limits transport, but also stimulates the local economy. Pine naturally has a moderate to low durability, but after thermal treatment the durability of ThermoWood® pine is comparable to that of tropical wood. After this process, the wood has a light brown colour with an attractive grain.

Choosing environmentally friendly materials reduces the environmental footprint and creates buildings that meet environmental and social requirements.

Fire retardant ThermoWood® pine

Lemahieu Fire Protection® has been selected to provide the fire retardant treatment. This treatment treats LDCwood® ThermoWood® with Burnblock®, a 100% natural fire retardant, achieving the required reaction to fire class. No post-treatment or maintenance is required to maintain the reaction to fire class.
