In the heart of Molenbeek, architectural firm B612 associates designed a new, multifunctional community centre that acts as a dynamic urban landmark. The freestanding building stands out for its distinctive ThermoWood pine cladding, fire-retardant treated for optimal safety and a warm, sustainable appearance.
About the project
The project forms a dynamic square and community centre for local residents. It seamlessly connects the high-value parks and green spaces in this densely populated district with the active, multimodal public space surrounding Brussels-West station.
As a freestanding structure with no immediate neighbours, the building plays a leading social and local role. The striking volume of the sports hall and its bold architecture give the community centre a strong visual identity. Fire-retardant treated ThermoWood® pine was selected for the facade cladding, providing the building with a warm, sustainable appearance while establishing it as a recognisable and safe urban landmark for the entire neighbourhood.
